Paros Airport (PAS) is the newest airport in the Cyclades: the terminal and 1,400-metre runway opened in 2016 beside the old airstrip on the flat south-west of the island, 9 km from Parikia and a few minutes from Aliki and Pounda. Olympic and Sky Express fly turboprops from Athens several times a day all year, with summer links to Thessaloniki and Heraklion, and there are no scheduled international flights. A runway extension to take jets has been discussed for years.

The terminal is compact and modern: one hall, a café, a taxi rank and a KTEL stop outside. Paros is also the ferry hub of the central Cyclades, so many visitors arrive by sea; the flights are the shortcut, and they sell out in August.

Transport

Parikia is 9 km away, about 15 minutes and €20 by taxi; Naoussa about €35. The KTEL runs between the airport and Parikia around the flight times for €2. Antiparos is a €12 taxi to Pounda and a ten-minute ferry.

Parking

A car park in front of the terminal, from about €2 an hour or €8 a day. Islanders flying to Athens use it most; it fills on August mornings when several ATRs leave together.

Car rental

Rental firms meet the flights with desks at the terminal and bays outside. Paros has a good bus network from Parikia, but the airport is in the far corner of the island and the best beaches are spread around its ring road, so most visitors rent a car or scooter for at least part of the stay.

Local tips

Book flights months ahead for August. The ATRs carry about 70 passengers, Paros has no other airline, and the ferry from Piraeus is the four-hour alternative.

Antiparos is closer to the airport than Naoussa is: ten minutes to Pounda and a ten-minute ferry. Time your flight to the half-hourly crossing and you are on the island in under an hour.

The meltemi delays the turboprops on the windiest days in July and August. Check the live board, and keep the ferry to Mykonos or Piraeus in mind as the fallback.

An hour before departure is enough; the hall is small and check-in closes 40 minutes before the flight.
