Sitia Airport “Vitsentzos Kornaros” (JSH) is on the plateau just above the town at the eastern end of Crete, 1 km from the harbour. Its runway was lengthened in the 2000s to take jets, and the terminal is small and modern. Sky Express and Olympic fly to Athens, Heraklion, Karpathos, Kasos and Rhodes a few times a week all year, and a handful of summer charters arrive from central Europe; otherwise eastern Crete flies from Heraklion.

Sitia is the quiet end of Crete: the palm beach at Vai, the Minoan palace at Zakros, the Toplou monastery and the empty east coast. The airport is a shortcut past the two-hour drive from Heraklion, and its Dodecanese flights make it the link between Crete and Karpathos.

Sitia town is 1 km below the airport, about 5 minutes and €8 by taxi. Vai is about €35, Ierapetra €70 and Agios Nikolaos €90. The KTEL station in town has coaches west to Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion.
