Milos Airport (MLO) sits on the salt flats at the head of the great bay, 4 km from Adamas, the port, and a little further from Plaka, the capital on the hill. It has a short runway for turboprops only: Olympic and Sky Express fly ATRs from Athens several times a day all year, and in summer there are hops to Thessaloniki and other Cycladic islands. There are no international flights.

The terminal is one small hall. Milos has grown quickly as a destination and the flights sell out early in summer; most visitors still arrive by ferry from Piraeus, Santorini or the western Cyclades, and the airport is the quick way in for those who plan ahead.

Transport

Adamas is 4 km away, about 10 minutes and €12 by taxi; Plaka about €15 and Pollonia about €25. There is no airport bus, and the island has very few taxis, so book ahead or arrange a hotel transfer.

Parking

A small car park in front of the terminal, from about €2 an hour or €6 a day. It is used mostly by islanders on day trips to Athens and by the rental companies.

Car rental

Milos rental firms meet the flights at the terminal or deliver from Adamas. With a dozen taxis on the island and its best beaches at the end of dirt tracks, almost every visitor rents a car, a small SUV or an ATV; book weeks ahead for July and August.

Local tips

Book your transport with your flight. A full ATR against a dozen island taxis means the rank is empty in minutes; a hotel transfer or a reserved hire car is the reliable way off the airport in summer.

Flights sell out early for July and August; the alternative is the ferry from Piraeus, three to seven hours depending on the boat, or a flight to Santorini and the fast ferry across.

The meltemi delays the turboprops on the windiest days. Check the live board, and keep the ferry timetable as a fallback for the return.
