Kythira Airport “Alexandros Aristotelous Onassis” (KIT) is on the flat north-east of the island near Diakofti, the ferry port, 25 km from Chora, the capital and castle at the southern tip. The runway takes turboprops and small jets: Olympic Air and Sky Express fly from Athens daily all year, with occasional summer flights to Thessaloniki. There are no international flights.

Kythira hangs off the southern tip of the Peloponnese, administratively Attica, historically Ionian, and mostly visited by Greeks and the Australian-Kytherian diaspora. It is a big island with scattered villages, few buses and a quiet airport whose 40-minute flight replaces a long drive and ferry from Neapoli.
