Aktion Airport (PVK) stands on the flat headland of Aktio at the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf, across the water from Preveza and 20 km from the causeway to Lefkada. It is the airport of Lefkada above all: the island has no airport of its own and most of PVK’s summer passengers, British, Dutch, German, Italian and Polish, are heading there. Preveza town is 8 km away through the undersea tunnel, Parga an hour north. Around 500,000 passengers a year, almost all between May and October.

The runway belongs to a Hellenic Air Force base and the civil terminal, renewed by Fraport Greece in 2021, sits beside it: one hall, taxi rank and car park outside, no public bus. The name comes from the sea battle of Actium fought in these waters in 31 BC.

Transport

There is no bus at Aktion: it is taxi, pre-booked transfer or hire car. Lefkada Town is 20 km and about €35, Nidri about €55, Vassiliki about €80; Preveza is 8 km through the tunnel, about €20.

Parking

An open-air car park beside the terminal, from about €3 an hour or €10 a day. Nearly every visitor leaves by coach, taxi or hire car, so a space is rarely a problem.

Car rental

Rental desks are in the terminal with the cars beside it. With no airport bus, a car collected on arrival is the transfer, and Lefkada’s west-coast beaches (Egremni, Porto Katsiki) are reached only by road. Book early for July and August.

Local tips

There is no bus at Aktion and never has been. Arrange transport before you fly; the taxi rank is fine for Preveza and Lefkada Town, not for Vassiliki on a Saturday.

Preveza is across the water, not up the road: the undersea tunnel makes it ten minutes, and the toll is already in the taxi fare.

Sit on the left landing from the south for Lefkada and its lagoon; on the right from the north for the Ambracian Gulf.

The terminal is small and the afternoon UK wave crowds it; two and a half hours on a summer Saturday, two otherwise. Vonitsa’s waterfront tavernas, 20 minutes away, are a better wait.
