Getting to and from Karpathos Airport
The airport is at the far south of the island, on the road that runs up past Amoopi to Pigadia. The southern resorts are all within half an hour; Lefkos on the west coast is an hour; Olympos and Diafani in the north are a different world, two hours away on a road that was only paved in the 2000s. Taxis and hire cars do the work, and package holidays include the coach.
Taxi from Karpathos Airport
The island has a few dozen taxis and they meet every flight, but two charters landing together will empty the rank, so book or ask the hotel to send a car. Fares are fixed per destination and posted at the rank; the night tariff applies after midnight, and the Olympos run should be agreed before you set off.

Bus and ferries
No bus serves the airport. The island bus runs from Pigadia to Amoopi, Arkasa, Lefkos and the villages a few times a day in summer, and to Olympos a couple of times a week; check the timetable at the Pigadia bus stop. From Pigadia port, ferries sail to Kasos (an hour), Rhodes and Crete a few times a week, and a summer boat runs up the east coast to Diafani.
