Car hire at Syros Airport

Syros is two islands. The south is Ermoupoli’s neoclassical streets, Ano Syros on its hill, and a ring of beach villages joined by the bus. The north, Apano Meria, is bare hills, walking trails and the beaches at Kampos and Grammata, reached by one road and no bus. A car for a day or two covers the north; the rest can be done on foot and by bus.

The airport is too small for permanent desks. Syros companies, based in Ermoupoli and at the port, meet reserved customers at the terminal or deliver the car there; book before you fly, especially for August and for the winter flights.

Driving from the airport

The airport road meets the main road in a minute. North to Ermoupoli in 10 minutes, and beyond it up through Ano Syros to Apano Meria and Kampos, 40 minutes of narrow bends; south and west for Vari, Poseidonia, Finikas, Galissas and Kini, all within 20 minutes. Park at the port or on the ring road above Ermoupoli; the centre is one-way lanes and marble steps.
